Solutions : : ALLERGIES
The Allergology Network of the Region of Piemonte enables operational links between the hospital structures involved in treating allergies. At a higher level, the network is aimed at gathering data for the Regional Observatory for Severe Allergic Reactions set up to carry out medium and long term monitoring and investigations into the allergological situation in Piemonte, and its related treatment.
The System and Operational Model
REGOLA has created a computer system dedicated to information gathering and statistical enquiry, able to link and create contacts between all the regional structures involved in treating patients affected by allergies.
The software applications deal with user recognition, data acquisition and identification of the reference structure; the server system classifies and stores the information found in an organised manner, then summarises it for quick consultation by users.
The Regional Observatory uses instruments which have been specially designed for detailed investigation of the data acquired; it also deals with the preparation of information sheets and guidelines which can be consulted by all the peripheral structures: in this way the Allergology Network is able to provide a real system for direct communication between medical centres and regional authorities.
One of the important elements of added value of the Allergology Network is the possibility to administrate medical alerting for allergies using advanced methods.
Doctors, emergency services and Accident and Emergency departments finding themselves having to deal with patients suffering from severe allergic reactions can notify an Epidemological Observatory, which will alert the relevant Allergology Centre; at the same time, the patients themselves will receive information at home about the structure to contact and the day of the appointment.
The Epidemological Observatory chooses the structure based on a partially automated assessment of the case in question.
The computer system created by REGOLA handles all the forms of use described in a highly automated format. In particular, it keeps a store of data which may be quickly accessed concerning the clinical condition of patients (fundamentally important for medical staff), current treatment and past diagnoses. It also has a large library of documents about procedures, medical information, regulations and guidelines and offers tools for electronic messaging between structures.
It is a Web application which guarantees maximum accessibility, fast transmission and automatic updating of new features. Due to the content of sensitive information on identified patients, the system uses advanced information protection devices, relating both to archives and data being transferred.
