NPINet is a Web Application, in other words an advanced software application capable of functioning and being used directly within a browser (such as Internet Explorer) in a similar way to a traditional Web page.
The Web Application allows access to the NPI system from any computer connected to the internet without the need to install specific software, and relies on a centralised data archive which is extremely secure against any attempts at computer hacking.
Protection of the information in transit and acquired data is a fundamental element in the field of applications which handle medical data relating to named patients; in the case of NPINet, protection is guaranteed by combinations of Firewall mechanisms and encryption of data transiting on the internet based on high-level, widely tested technologies.

The NPINet system involves collecting patient data (personal details), regarding their illnesses, the diagnoses made and the related medical treatment given. This acquisition is then carried out peripherally at regional structures such as surgeries.
The data are centrally acquired and made available for statistics by the Department of Health of the Region of Piemonte or other relevant bodies, who are able to carry out enquiries, also based on the information concerning staff or the structures.
The integrated printable statistics and support functions such as messaging are undoubtedly added values of no little value, and combine to guarantee the efficiency and completeness of NPINet.
