Promoting Health by having fun!

Salutiamoci.it is an initiative from the Region of Piemonte's Health Promotion Department in collaboration with Piemonte's Regional Division of the Ministry for Education, Universities and Research.
It is mainly aimed at children aged between 9 and 13, and aims to educate them about correct lifestyles, via an internet portal and various activities linked to it.
The project is connected to "Ama te Stesso" ("Love Yourself"), a programme which has been running for several years, with which the Region of Piemonte intends to promote the culture of healthy living and prevention, and to "Parliamo con i giovani" ("Let's talk to young people"), an important initiative aimed at setting up a dialogue between institutions and younger groups of citizens.

REGOLA is the technical reference point for the project, and is looking after the creation of the portal Salutiamoci.it from the point of view of the information technology and user systems. Since the planning and conceptual stages of the product, REGOLA has managed to achieve a communicative format to allow promotion of health education in a fun way.

Who is it aimed at?

Salutiamoci.it is divided into two large areas. The first appears as a website with public access, aimed at students aged between 9 and 13 and their teachers. The second is a large portal with reserved access, aimed at various types of user.

Presented with the metaphor of a virtual village, and attractive, amusing graphics, the public section aims to represent a meeting place for young people, parents and teachers, and to contribute to raising their awareness on the theme of healthy living.

The reserved access area, in reality open to any user belonging to or connected with schools, is a real portal for the use and exchange of educational resources. There are five types of user planned for this part of the portal: individual students, their classes, their teachers, regional contacts who are not part of the teaching staff, and experimenters trained to evaluate its contents and training methods. Teachers, like the other users, may consult the online section or download documentary materials of various kinds, including documents or dispensations, guidelines or material created by teachers and students in the classroom. They themselves may also upload contributions to the portal and offer them for publication, completely automatically.
The reserved access area is to all intents and purposes a large-scale documentary portal, which also offers multimedia content and games for students and classes, aiming to identify itself as a point of reference for learning which will certainly be of interest for health promotion in schools.
